HIV-911 looks towards 2010

With our referral network database now spanning more than 14 000 organisations involved in HIV and AIDS-related work, HIV-911 proudly looks back on 2009 as a year of growth and success.

Our partnership with The Grid means that you can now use your mobile phone to easily find your nearest HIV and AIDS-related service provider, anywhere in South Africa.

All 9 provincial directories for Series 2 of the HIV-911 HIV-related services directory went successfully into circulation across South Africa in 2009.

Active datacapture for Series 3 is in progress and the Gauteng directory is first up.

HIV-911 continues to actively explore mobile interfaces for dissemination of HIV-911 referral information. The mobile pilot (Impilo Health in my Hands) now provides location based referrals to health services in South Africa and a simplified USSD interface (to use the free service call *120*467456# from a mobile phone).

More importantly, 2010 is a year of promise and even more opportunity. 2010 will be the year HIV-911 will see another partnership with Dept of Social Development, USAID and Population Council come to fruition, with the release of Series 1 of the Children Services Directory. The Children Services Directory is a listing of non-profit organisations (NPOs) and governmental organisations that are working in South Africa to address the needs of orphaned and other vulnerable children.

HIV911 strives to make HIV-related support available to all who need it by connecting those with resources and services to people in need. We now offer you multiple access points to HIV911 and we are confident that 2010 will bring many more opportunities to offer you hope and connection.

HIV911 is contactable via our Data Collection and Referral Centre on 0860 HIV 911 or visit our website.

HIV-911 looks forward to a year of expansion, new possibilities and better ways to truly give you hope and connection.
