PARTNERS:

HIV-911 is continually seeking new partnerships and opportunities to expand the reach of the HIV-911 Referral Network. Further detail on current partnerships that have assisted HIV-911 in the production of this online, mobile and print directory are provided below:

  • The HIV-911 national directory project is generously funded by the Foundation for Professional Development (FPD) through PEPFAR/USAID. The FPD is registered with the Department of Education as a Private Higher Education Institution under the Higher Education Act, 1997 (Registration Certificate Number: 2002/HE07/013). The FPD is also an accredited service provider for continuous professional development (CPD) by the Medical and Dental Professions Board of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA). The FPD is currently the largest self-funding health sector educational provider in South Africa. The FPD has three key focus areas: education, research and capacity building – more specifically in the areas of health and management.

  • HIV-911 is a partner of the FPD through the Compass Project. This FPD initiative strives to assist communities to respond effectively to HIV through three key programmes:

    1) an HIV and AIDS Mapping and Research Centre to achieve accurate epidemiological data and gap analysis for communities;
    2) Information and resource collaboration for locating HIV and AIDS services/organisations;
    3) Organisational development and capacity building through organizational needs assessments, benchmarking and skills building for community organisations. For more information on the FPD and the Compass Project, please visit www.foundation.co.za and www.compassproject.co.za

  • Population Council, Westat and the National Department of Social Development (DSD) partner with HIV-911 in the production of the Children Services Directory, a directory of registered not-for-profit organisations working with children.

  • Several Provincial AIDS Councils and major NGO coalitions in the country actively engage with and support HIV-911’s data collection efforts, including the AIDS Consortium and NACOSA.

  • The Higher Education South Africa’s AIDS Programme (HEAIDS) is facilitating the use of HIV-911’s database as a support service to the higher education sector.

  • The Department of Basic Education has also ensured that all schools in South Africa have a CD-Rom version of the directory for all 9 provinces.

  • Similarly, HIV-911 collaborates with the corporate sector through the South African Business Coalition Against HIV and AIDS (SABCOHA).

  • A number of faith-based collaborations ensure that efforts of this sector are reflected in the database, e.g. World Conference on Religion and Peace / Religions for Peace; International Network of Religious Leaders Living with or Personally Affected by HIV and AIDS (INERELA); the Inter-Religious Council (KZN), Islamic Medical Association (IMA); Positive Muslims; Religious Sector HIV and AIDS Task Team of the South African National AIDS Council (RSHATT); Anglican AIDS and Healthcare Trust and HIV and AIDS Mission Unit – The Methodist Church of Southern Africa (MCSA).

  • HIV-911 is represented on the Management Committee of the National Social Welfare Forum (NSWF) and is an active participant in its national, provincial and regional forum structures. • HIV-911 is represented on the South African National AIDS Council (SANAC) structures as a member of the NGO Sector Executive Committee. HIV-911 plays an active role in the Communications Technical Task Team and the Treatment, Care and Support Technical Task Team of SANAC.

  • HIV-911 works with Vodacom’s “The Grid” to ensure that all Grid users have access to HIV-911’s database.

  • Always Active Technologies (AAT) and CellLife provide technical expertise in the development of mobile phone applications for the HIV-911 programme. Try this innovative new service by calling *120*HIV# (*120*448#) from any mobile handset.

  • The African Medical Research Foundation (AMREF) partners with HIV-911 in developing and evaluating the Impilo! Health in My Hands mobile phone project in Umkhanyakude. The Impilo mobile phone directory uses USSD technology to enable 24 hour access to HIV-911 via any mobile phone.

  • EnhanceESI has worked alongside HIV-911 over the past two years producing all of the maps used in Series 3 and Series 4. EnhanceESI have also assisted with identifying demarcation changes across the country on an ongoing basis, ensuring that HIV-911 keeps its municipality records up to date as possible.

  • Interpak Books has been instrumental in ensuring that HIV-911’s hard copy directory series is printed as cost-effectively as possible and that copies are distributed efficiently to all stakeholders.

  • Young Africa Live is a youth mobile portal developed by Vodacom. Young Africa Live is the world's first entertainment-oriented mobile portal that focuses on stimulating discussion around Sexual Health, HIV and AIDS in South Africa. Young Africa Live and HIV-911 are partnering to enable users of this mobile portal to access the HIV-911 directory.

  • And last but not least, sincere thanks to the University of KwaZulu-Natal Foundation staff for their ongoing support in assisting HIV-911 to raise the funds necessary to continue to support and expand our activities.
